About Skelding CNC, Droitwich, WorcestershireSkelding
CNC was started by Vernon
Skelding in 1998 as a result of the increasing level of enquiries for the production
of computer generated machined components. Vernon had been in education for some twenty five years whilst at the same time being involved in the manufacture of timber
based products. He is a graduate of Loughborough University and has worked closely with several companies developing CNC
based materials for use in education. This involvement resulted in developing materials for many major exhibitions relating to educational needs and his work has appeared on television, in books and even received acclaim from the Secretary of State for Education.
Since leaving education he has also acted on a consultancy basis for many firms involved in the setting up and development of new products. Leading firms of CNC machine manufacturers have utilised his services in the programming and production of complex vacuum tables to maximise the work-holding capabilities of their products. He has also provided assistance to several firms requiring help developing new ranges of computer generated toys particularly where his sympathetic design input has achieved an increased market share. Since 1998 Skelding CNC has provided a machining capability to mainly small companies requiring work on a jobbing basis particularly where comparatively small production runs make the purchase of their own in-house machinery uneconomic. The rapid growth in the production of added value components particularly in MDF and plywood has kept the company busy during this period. It has on occasions been the victim of its own success in that customers’ appreciating the quality, efficiency and service provided by Skelding CNC has resulted in them eventually setting up their own machining facilities. In response to demand for sensibly priced machined items the company has also produced its own in-house range of products including dolls houses, seasonal products and items for self finishing etc, which are now available on-line to either trade or retail customers. This recent development has not interfered with the core business of providing a reliable and efficient machining service. |
